Franziska Preuß is the German medal hope at the 2025 biathlon World Cup in Lenzerheide. After she has repeatedly struggled with her body in recent years, the 30-year-old is currently running. Why?

“I didn’t change much in the training structure. The gamuchanger may have been simply that I stay healthy and physically put everything away. the World Cup start on Wednesday.

In order to avoid infections, the leader in the overall World Cup underwent surgery on the sinuses in the spring. In everyday life and also private, she is now “very, very careful,” emphasized Franziska Preuss.

At family reunions, for example, she relies on wearing masks. “Of course that’s not nice. We have a few children in the family. If you can’t do it so much, it is difficult for me. But it is part of the game.”

In order to keep up with the top athletes in the biathlon circus, “you have to put the sensitivities back a bit,” said Preuss. “I know what I do for. But I’m looking forward to it if it doesn’t matter at some point.”

Biathlon: Franzi Preuss made setbacks stronger

The many setbacks of the past have made Germany’s best biathlete. She was “sometimes more relaxed,” explained Preuß. “You learn to deal with the experience and that you need patience to overcome crises. But of course I want to do without it in the future.”

Preuss had previously described precious metal as her “realistic goal” at the biathlon World Cup. “It is important for me to get to the races with a certain relaxation and do my best. Hopefully there is also reason to be happy,” she said.
