Stop the races, go ahead for the parties. From Giacomel to Vittozzi and Wierer between relaxation, family and unusual gifts they recharge before the January 8th stop in Oberhof
After four consecutive weeks of competitions, which have given Italy a lot of satisfaction, some well-deserved rest is coming for the protagonists of the Biathlon World Cup. The top international circuit will restart from Oberhof (Germany) on January 8th. For athletes it’s time to rest and enjoy the affections a little. After kissing his Elisa following his triumph in the mass start of Le Grand Bornand, Tommaso Giacomel can’t wait to spend Christmas with his girlfriend: “I’ll spend as much time as possible with her and my family. I’ll stay in Primiero, I’ll try to rest and then start training again.”

Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer are no exception either. “I will be in Sappada with my family and above all I will try not to go around much because it is important not to get sick,” said Lisa. Doro also wants to enjoy home: “I can finally spend a bit with my husband Stefano in Val di Fiemme. In the end, I’ve been away for a month and among my many commitments I need to stop for a moment, be with him and then start training again with new energy”. Christmas is a time for gifts and Giacomel surprises when he reveals what he considers the best one he has ever received: “The mixer that Elisa gave me last year. I really like cooking bread, pizza, desserts.” The Trentino added: “I think I gave the best gift to my uncle and my cousin, when I bought them a ticket for the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix. We are all great fans. I think the best gift for Elisa will be this year…”.

The two queens of the Italian biathlon are less Christmassy. “I hate giving gifts. The truth is that I don’t love Christmas very much, I’m a bit like the Grinch himself. Let’s say that this year the best gift for my loved ones is me, since they will see me again after a month”, says Vittozzi. Wierer isn’t a big fan of Christmas thoughts either. “I like giving gifts, but surprising people, rather than giving them just because it’s Christmas. So I can not give gifts now and then come out with a nice surprise in a few months. The best one? Like Tommy, mine is also linked to the kitchen: the Bimby”. A very particular answer was given a few years ago by the former Norwegian biathlete, Tiril Eckhoff, in the post-race conference in Hochfilzen, causing even Dorothea Wierer who was about to sit down after her to burst out laughing: watch the video.
