Julia Tannheimer is one of the largest biathlon talents in Germany, last year she made the permanent leap to the World Cup team. For this, the 20-year-old also had to push her limits.

With Julia Tannheimer, the change from the junior to professional area has left its mark. The past biathlon season was “in retrospect for the young ski hunter,” she confessed in an interview with “chiemgau24.de”.

After her remarkable debut in the World Cup in Ruhpolding in January 2024, she was part of the DSV squad for the first time in the past 2024/25 season, and even won two races with the season. The new life as a World Cup athlete also brought great changes.

“In the previous years I went to school and never actually run a complete season. The past winter was correspondingly intense, I noticed that in particular at the end of March,” said the Ulm woman: “I wasn’t just physically very tired.”

The many trips were “getting used to”: “You are constantly on the road in the World Cup. And when I had a free week, I went to my family in Ulm, was with my friend in the Allgäu and still at home in Freiburg. That was exhausting, but that is part of a life as a professional.” In the future, Tannheimer wants to “find a better balance” here.

With a view to the new season, the ski hunter, who already has her World Cup ticket for starting in Östersund, still wants to work on her running values.

“In the 1-1 technique, the trainers have found some points in which I have improvement potential. Here I am on the right track, which also shows me the feedback of the coaches,” said Tannheimer, who, according to their own statement, has not yet been able to exploit their full potential.

Dahlmeier-Hunglück “not really processed yet”

Meanwhile, the young athlete is still in shock about the death of biathlon icon Laura Dahlmeier, who had an accident at the Laila Peak in Pakistan at the end of July. “I haven’t really processed what happened to Laura. She was such a great person and a great inspiration for me.”

She will never forget to visit the two-time Olympic champion at the training base in Vienna last year. “It was a great honor that she and the base in Ulm attended me.
