Norway’s biathlon star Karoline Offigstad Knotten has shared a positive health update after suffering a ruptured appendix.

“This is how the days go by. It’s been almost two weeks since the operation and I’m in full recovery mode,” Knotten wrote on Instagram on Monday.

The 31-year-old said: “Since I first felt pain in June last year and frustration, uncertainty and pain came and went throughout the fall and winter, I finally see light at the end of the tunnel.”

The biggest challenge now would be “to be patient in the next few weeks, even if your legs itch and the motivation and desire to train fully again is great,” explained Knotten.

Biathlon star looks ahead

The 2026 Olympic bronze medalist was admitted to hospital in mid-May due to a ruptured appendix.

“During the World Cup at Holmenkollen I developed stomach problems and in the last few weeks I have undergone several tests to find out the cause,” Knotten shared her medical history at the time.

Fortunately, the Norwegian biathlete is making progress. “Now I’m looking forward and gathering all my motivation until my body is ready and I can really start working for the new season,” Knotten gave a positive update.

Knotten back in the national team

The 31-year-old finished the last biathlon season in 21st place in the overall World Cup. From Norway only Maren Kirkeeide (9th) and Marthe Krakstad Johansen (20th) were better. At the 2026 Olympics, Knotten won the bronze medal in the relay.

The Scandinavian is returning to the national team’s A squad for the upcoming biathlon season, after competing in the previous one as a soloist following a disagreement with her coaches.
