The 2025 biathlon World Cup in Lenzerheide will start with the mixed relay on Wednesday. Swede Elvira Öberg will still follow the first competition as a spectator.

Anna Magnusson, Hanna Öberg, Martin Ponsiluoma and Sebastian Samuelsson form the Swedish mixed quartet for the start of the 2025 biathlon World Cup, as the Swedish association officially confirmed on Tuesday.

“We will start with a strong team that has a good chance of being there in the race for the medals,” said Sweden’s biathlon head coach Johannes Lukas on the mixed relay on Wednesday (2:30 p.m. in the live ticker at Sport.de) ahead: “It will be a tough competition, but we are ready and look forward to the challenge.”

Elvira Öberg, on the other hand, will not be there over the 4×6 kilometers. The overall World Cup third has been thrown back by a stubborn cold in the past few weeks.

Elvira Öberg will probably start the 2025 biathlon World Cup on Friday

The 25-year-old will be ready for the sprint on Friday (3:05 p.m. in the live ticker at Sport.de), biathlon coach Lukas is quoted by the Swedish TV station “SVT”.

Instead of Elvira Öberg, Magnusson moves into the mixed relay. “I think it’s very nice to start with a relay race. The first race is always particularly exciting, and if it is a relay race, the tension may be even greater. But I think I feel good and look forward to running”, the 29-year-old told SVT.

Magnusson is currently in 16th position in the overall biathlon World Cup.

The Swedish mixed relay took third place behind the biathlon World Cup behind France and Norway last year and thus won the bronze medal. Instead of Magnusson, Elvira Öberg was part of the team in the Czech Nove Mesto at the time.
