A few days before the start of the Winter Olympics in Italy, Swedish biathlete Jesper Nelin can announce good news. He and his partner are expecting a child, and after the season highlight the time has already come.

Biathlon star Jesper Nelin from Sweden is already counting down the days – and not just until the start of the Winter Olympics.

“Exciting times lie ahead. If everything goes as planned, a new boy will be born at the end of March,” writes the 33-year-old in a post on Instagram.

Nelin allowed himself a little fun with his partner: In the picture, the Swede looks into the camera around a door frame and presents a big, round baby bump – which of course belongs to his fiancée Sandra. Some well-known names from the biathlon circus immediately left their congratulations.

Before he can get used to his new life as a father, Jesper Nelin has the big career highlight coming up. From February 8th, the Swede will fight for precious metal in the Biathlon Arena in Antholz.

The veteran was nominated for the Olympic squad by the Swedish association in mid-December. Fredrik Joulamo, sports director of the Swedish Olympic Committee, justified the decision with the strong start to the season.

At the start in Östersund he was part of the Swedish relay team that took third place. In Hochfilzen and Oberhof Nelin was able to win two third places with the team. His experience will also be important at the Olympics: in 2018 he was part of the Olympic quartet that won gold in Pyeongchang.

Nelin was also successful in the relay at the World Championships. In 2021 he won silver in Pokljuka and bronze in Oberhof in 2023. In 2024 the relay even won World Cup gold. So far, Jesper Nelin has won two relays in the World Cup.
