The Biathlon World Cup can look forward to the next exceptional talent in the coming season. Swedish junior world champion Philip Lindkvist-Fløtten was officially named to the senior squad for the coming winter on Tuesday. That’s exactly what the 19-year-old had previously aimed for.
With the 19-year-old junior world champion Philip Lindkvist-Fløtten, the Swedish Biathlon Association presented a new face in the A squad for the coming season on Tuesday. The youngster had previously consciously decided to start in Sweden and against the Norwegians, for whom he could also have run.
“It feels great to be part of the senior national team. That’s the goal I had. Being part of it now feels great. I’m looking forward to moving to Östersund and starting training with the others in the team,” said Lindkvist-Fløtten after the squad was announced.

In addition to the 19-year-old, there was another, at least small, surprise in the squad. Anna Magnussen is a runner who was publicly flirting with retirement just a few weeks ago. After the last World Cup weekend at Holmenkollen, the 31-year-old left it open whether she would compete again in 2026/27. Now it’s clear: she’ll carry on.
According to the association, the training structure of the Swedish team will now look a little different. The plan is to reduce the number of travel days. Means: There will be more and more training in Östersund and less in the Alps. There is also a new face in the coaching team: Finn Jonne Kähkönen, who has worked as the Italian team’s shooting coach in recent years, has been hired.
