Biathlon: Erik Lesser ends his career – Biathlon – Winter sports

The German biathlon team will have to do without Erik Lesser from next season. In his podcast “Biathlon Doubles” with former biathletes and sports show expert Arnd Peiffer, Lesser revealed that he would end his career after this winter.

Arnd, you already know, but this is the last time I’ve packed my travel bag as an active biathlete“Lesser said in an interview with Peiffer: “That’s it for me. I’ll pack my things here now, do three more World Cups and then: Adios Amigos. Then it’s enough for me and that fits quite well.”

A final (time) journey through his career

Because one of the last World Cups will take place in Kontiolahti, where Lesser celebrated his greatest career success in 2015. “The place where I became world champion, where we became world champions“Said Lesser, who was victorious at the time in the pursuit and with the German squadron.

And the following week in Otepää – that was my first European Championship in 2010, so it was my first major event. And then I’ll come back and in the cradle of winter sports, in Oslo I can say goodbye: hopefully in the mass start“Lesser said.

Silver and Bronze Olympic Experiences

In recent years, this discipline has been the 33-year-old’s favorite discipline due to his strength at the shooting range. In the mass start, Lesser also achieved one of his two individual victories in the World Cup, that was in Ruhpolding in 2016.

His greatest achievements also include three medals at the Olympic Games. In 2014 Lesser won silver in the individual race over 20 kilometers and in the relay, in 2018 in Pyeongchang it was enough to win bronze in the relay.

But Lesser wants to stay with the biathlon in the future. The 33-year-old decided years ago that he wanted to be a coach.
