Biathlon couple announce wedding plans

The biathlon family continues to grow together: With the Austrians Felix Leitner and Anna-Maria Schreder, two well-known faces from winter sports have announced their impending marriage.

ÖSV biathlete Felix Leitner and his girlfriend Anna-Maria Schreder are engaged. The couple announced this via Instagram, as the portal “sportnews.bz“. The two winter sports enthusiasts made the promise while on holiday in Tenerife.

In the current training-free period, the 25-year-old Leitner can look back on 29th place in the last overall World Cup. Schreder, herself a long-time professional biathlete, attacked in the World Cup until 2020. After that, she retired from professional sports.

Leitner and his long-time partner got to know each other when they went to school together. The couple lives in Hochfilzen.

Felix Leitner, three-time junior world champion, took part in the Beijing Winter Olympics in February. His best result came in the pursuit when he finished tenth. He also finished tenth in the men’s and mixed relay. He finished 16th in the individual race, 29th in the mass start and 46th in the sprint.

The biathlete caused a stir during the games with critical statements about the Austrians’ ski equipment. The skis were “a catastrophe”, said Leitner at the time: “I would have hoped otherwise, but I knew that we would have problems with the skis when it was freezing cold. That came true”.

Statements that did not go down well with the Austrian Ski Association. Biathlon head coach Ricco Groß then reprimanded the ski hunter that Leitner had “overshot the mark a bit”. ÖSV sports director Anton Giger also stood protectively in front of the material department. ÖSV did not win an Olympic medal in biathlon.
