Beyoncé: Mother defends herself against allegations that daughter lightened her skin

Tina Knowles complains on Instagram about “racist clowns” who assume things about her daughter.

69-year-old Tina Knowles, mother of singer Beyoncé, has defended herself against current “racist allegations” that her daughter lightened her own skin in the new concert film “Renaissance”. The work in question will be released in cinemas worldwide on Friday (December 1, 2023).

“Stupid ignorant clowns!”

In a lengthy Instagram statement that the American businesswoman and fashion designer posted alongside a video for Beyoncé’s song “Brown Skin Girl,” Knowles condemned the “stupid, ignorant, self-hating, racist statements” and rejected that Beyoncé somehow “knows wanted to be”.

In the statement, the mother noted, “She’s making a movie called ‘Renaissance’ where the entire theme is silver, with silver hair, a silver carpet, and silver dresses, and you idiots think she’s trying to attract a white woman his and her skin to bleach? Sure, she wore silver hair to match her silver dress as a fashion statement, you clowns.”

Tina Knowles: “Black women have been wearing platinum blonde hair since Etta James!”

Knowles then continued: “What’s really sad is that a white woman had the audacity to reach out to Neal [Beyoncés Friseur], and said she was from TMZ… and she wanted an explanation from Neal. Well, that made my blood boil, that this white woman felt so entitled to talk about her Blackness. What’s really disappointing is some Black people, yes, you idiots on social media. They lie and pretend to be so ignorant that they don’t understand that Black women have been wearing platinum blonde hair since the time of Etta James.”

reactions to the words

Artists react positively to Knowles’ words on social media. The musician Jessie J, for example, commented: “A mother who stands up for her daughter. Well said!”

Fashion illustrator and designer Hayden Williams wrote: “This strange hyper-fixation on Beyoncé’s complexion and hair color over the years is beyond tiring, and people should do something more productive with their time. She has given us pure art and an incredible body of work throughout her career and that is what some want to focus on? Sad times but she will continue to thrive regardless of the chatter.”
