It was reported in July 2021 that Bob Odenkirk had suffered a mild heart attack on the set of Better Call Saul. Now the actor commented in detail on “The Howard Stern Show” about the incident.
He recovered quickly and was back on set for the show’s final season shortly thereafter, but it was the first time he was close to death, the actor said. “I would have been dead if someone hadn’t screamed and got someone to revive me right away. The resuscitation saved my life.”
Odenkirk said the on-set health officer performed CPR on him for 12 minutes before even getting a defibrillator from her car. It took three attempts to get him to an effective heart rhythm, he said. “If the defibrillator doesn’t work, that’s not good. If it doesn’t work the second time, you’re pretty much lost. But then they jacked me up a third time and gave me a rhythm.”
He also credited the efforts of his co-stars Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian, “who rushed right to my side. Rhea held my head and Patrick held my hand. I instantly turned gray and stopped breathing, and they screamed and screamed… and then everyone shifted gears.”
The sixth and final season of Better Call Saul will be released in two parts. The first part will be available on Netflix in Germany from April 19, the second part will follow on July 12, 2022.
