The colorful mural by artists Does and Zenith, the stage name of Matthias Schoenaerts, was voted the best street art in the world by the international website ‘Street Art Cities’ in April 2020. Due to storm damage, the work would now be covered by a layer of insulation.
‘Hopefully something new will replace it’, ‘Wow, how boring is that now???’ and ‘Sin, it was a cool wall!’, are some of the disappointing reactions on the Instagram page of ‘street art antwerp’. Schoenaerts himself did not respond yet.
Does and Zenith made the mural during the lockdown period in 2020. “I feel like continuing to paint and continuing the series in Antwerp,” Schoenaerts told our newspaper at the time. “This work will be extra fresh and summery. The colorful parts symbolize energy and joie de vivre, because lately everything has become depressing. The cracks in the work represent pain and pressure.”
