Best ever performance for golfer Wil Besseling with second place in Hamburg

Wil Besseling from Zwaag finished second at the European Open in Hamburg this afternoon. The golfer finished two strokes behind winner Kalle Samooja after four days and 72 holes. With his performance, the North Hollander has qualified for a major for the first time.

Two years ago, Besseling finished third three times in a race of the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour). Today he went the extra mile by finishing second only.

Besseling started the day two strokes behind the leader. After 14 holes he was clear with two birdies and 12 pars to take the lead. On hole 15, it went wrong with a double bogey (two strokes over par). He recovered well with birdies on 16 and 18 and gave up a stroke on 17. With that, the resident of Zwaag finished on a total of -4. The Finn Samooja needed two strokes less over four rounds in Hamburg on the Green Eagle golf course.

US Open

Due to his strong performance, Besseling (36) can make his first appearance in a major. He will participate in the US Open in the state of Massachusetts from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 June. The other majors are The Masters, PGA Championship and the British Open.
