Did he have an accident while hiking? Since Wednesday evening, more than a hundred rescue workers have been looking for the missing Berlin tourist Bernd Meyer (75).
The man had traveled to Iceland alone in his van and wanted to hike from Flateyjardalur over to Fjörður in the north of the country.
When he had not been seen for two weeks, the police contacted his wife in Germany, local media reported. The last time she was in contact with her husband was on July 14.
At around 7 p.m. on Thursday evening, the coast guard helicopter crew found a body in the mountainous area, the Icelandic police said on their Facebook page.
The officials consider it very likely that this is the missing Berliner. An official confirmation is still pending. The cause of death was initially unknown.
