Berlin volleys disappoint in Poland: two games, two defeats

The Berlin Volleys return home from the traditional Arkadiusz Golas Tournament in Zalasewo (Poland) without a win. On Sunday, after a disappointing performance, the German volleyball champion lost to the Ukrainian title holder Barkom-Kazhany Lviv in the match for third place with 1:3 (18:25, 25:22, 19:25, 24:26).

The day before the volleys against Poland’s championship third CMC Warta Zawiercie had lost 0:3 (21:25, 25:27, 26:28).

In both games, the Czech Marek Sotola was the Bundesliga club’s most successful attacker with a total of 29 points.

Zawiercie is also an opponent of BR Volleys in the group stage of the Champions League starting in November. In the tournament game against Poland, the Berliners were unable to use a 21:16 lead to win a set in the second round. In the third section, too, the volleys were on the road to success for a long time (16:13, 21:19) before they lost out in the extension of the sentence.

There was a clear difference between the two teams in the libero position: Berlin’s newcomer Satoshi Tsuiki had an acceptance rate of just 20 percent there, while his counterpart Santiago Danini, who was still under contract with BR Volleys last season, had 41 percent.

Two weeks before the start of the season in the Bundesliga, the Berliners were far from masterly form, especially against Lviv. The Berliners had defeated this opponent 3-0 in Lublin a week earlier.
