Away from the demos, the Berliners enjoyed the 1st of May in the sun. In perfect sunny weather, people danced, feasted and bathed.
Despite the water temperature of ten degrees, the first swimmers dared to go into the cool water at the Plötzensee lido. “It’s incredibly cold, but we had to be there at the opening and open the bathing season,” says Kate Leismer (42) from Schöneberg.

It was significantly warmer on the banks of the Spree on Museum Island. Here, under the sun, salsa was danced and hula hoops swung.

Many came here deliberately to avoid the hustle and bustle around Neukölln and Kreuzberg and just to relax.

Real spring fever: Martina (32) and Jan Hassenpflug (29) from Mariendorf: “The weather is nice. We sit by the Spree and just enjoy the sun. The people are in a good mood, there is music and finally Berlin feels like spring.”
