Berlin has lifted the 2G rule for retail. At its meeting on Tuesday, the Senate decided to change the Corona Ordinance accordingly, as the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) announced. Shopping in many shops and department stores is currently only allowed for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. From Friday this will no longer apply, but instead there will be a general obligation to wear an FFP2 mask in retail. The Senate has also regulated it for tourism offers such as city tours and boat trips as well as for museums, galleries and memorials.

There has been repeated loud criticism of the 2G rule in retail in recent weeks, both from the opposition parties and from retail associations. (dpa)
