Andrej Gronau opens the doors of his dollhouse and provides insights into personal memories and the comforts of home.
The German designer of the London-based label of the same name uses the dollhouse as a concept. He transfers it to his own four walls, a central place for identity and encounters.
The living room
One’s own home – like the dollhouse – is furnished according to individual taste and does not follow the rules according to which publicly accessible rooms are designed, says the zine created for the autumn/winter 2026 collection. This personal freedom is also reflected in the clothing style, which foregoes social dress codes and focuses primarily on comfort. When styling, long-sleeved tops contrast with loose shorts, while long pants are tucked into socks.
For this collection, Gronau looks back on two observations from his own family – his grandmother’s 80th birthday, which was held in a villa that had been marked by the years, which evoked the idea of such a dollhouse through its various rooms and decorative elements. A vibe that was also conveyed with the choice of show location.
This idea is reflected in the collection through the interplay of brocante patterns, which are reminiscent of wallpaper, different fabrics and colors. French Terry Stretch, Sherpa Fleece, velor, but also loden and wool, which are made in Austria, are used. When it comes to colors, he uses a rich palette that ranges from Colonial Ivery to Royal Orchid to Twilight Blue. But individual pieces also play with elements from everyday surroundings and, for example, the hood is leaned against a curtain.
The dolls
The human component is added by Gronau’s second observation. The baptism of his nephew, who was dressed in a suit like an adult, made him question why children are dressed in such a form while adults cling too much to norms and lose the fun, he explains in an interview after the show.
This play with clothing and a touch of childlike naivety is also evident in the collection. Various motifs such as horses on knitted sweaters complete the picture and represent an exciting contrast with the spatial inspiration.
