Berkshire Hathaway boss Warren Buffett praises Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos

Warren Buffett has been a role model for many investors for decades. The 91-year-old runs his investment company Berkshire Hathaway according to the principles of value investing and is considered one of the most successful representatives in this field. In an interview with ex-CBS journalist Charlie Rose, Buffett recently gave an insight into why his investment strategy has been so successful over the years: “You don’t have to be a genius at what I do, that’s the good thing about it,” says the star investor . “I’m an intelligent guy who cares a lot about what he’s doing, so I’ve spent a lifetime doing that and surrounding myself with people who bring out the best in me,” he says.

Buffett isn’t thinking about retirement

In his opinion, it is important to have patience when implementing the value strategy. “I know that over time I’ll win. That doesn’t mean I’ll beat everyone else or anything. But the game is very, very, very easy if you take the right lessons on what you’re buying has head”.

The star investor is apparently not planning to withdraw from business life, at least in the short term. There is a successor for him at Berkshire Hathaway, but this is not yet warming up. “I’m in overtime, but I’m still out there,” Buffett continued in the interview.

He is a “decaying machine, but it still feels wonderful,” says Buffett about himself. Although he sometimes can’t remember why he climbed the stairs and his memory for names has suffered, he can no longer do that read, hear and see quickly as before and his sense of balance has also suffered. “But none of that affects my happiness, my work, everything.”

Praise for Elon Musk

Even if his memory of names is said to have gotten worse, the 91-year-old can apparently still remember Elon Musk’s name well. Buffett and the Tesla boss have exchanged verbal blows several times in the past. “Moats are lame,” Musk said a few years ago, one of the most important characteristics companies should have for Buffett to consider investing. Shortly thereafter, Musk followed up again and explained that he was not one of the old master’s biggest fans because he thought his job was “boring”. Musk ranks Buffett as the type of billionaire who grows wealth by “investing in companies or moving money around the stock market,” while others make their money by “creating amazing products.”

Despite Musk’s criticism of him and the way Buffett makes money, the star investor himself found words of praise for the Tesla boss in an interview with Charlie Rose. “Elon takes on General Motors and Ford and Toyota and all these people who have all this stuff and he has an idea and he wins. This is America. You can’t make it up. It’s amazing.” There are many car manufacturers, but you have to be the one who makes the cars that the customers want.

However, Tesla itself does not appear to meet the criteria for Berkshire Hathaway to enter the market. Instead, the investment company has had a stake in Tesla’s Chinese competitor BYD for some time. Buffett has once again proved he has the right instinct: The BYD share, which was trading for 8 HKD at the time of the entry, currently costs almost 235 HKD.

Jeff Bezos is a ‘very smart guy’

In the eyes of Warren Buffett, the founder of the Internet giant Amazon, Jeff Bezos, also did a lot of things right in business life. Bezos is a “very smart guy,” explained the star investor in an interview. Apparently, Buffett himself did not expect that the former online bookseller Amazon would become one of the largest Internet companies in the world. If Bezos had asked him about his prospects for success, Buffett would have said “good luck,” he said. “Amazon couldn’t have happened, but it happened,” Buffett describes the unusual success story of today’s online giant.

Bezos himself is one of his friends, even if they only see each other once a year. In particular, according to Buffett, the philanthropic work that Bezos and his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott would do should be appreciated.

Buffett himself is also considered a philanthropist. Together with his friend, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the Berkshire boss launched “The Giving Pledge”. Members of the US organization pledge to donate at least half of their wealth to charity. Warren Buffett is expected to significantly exceed this goal, he himself wants to donate 95 percent of his assets, which Forbes currently estimates at around 115 billion US dollars.
