The only community center in Bergen has been in the new building at Jaap Veldheerhof for more than a year. There are at the location of the previous community center Twenty social rental homes built. The T&O neighborhood center (Garden and Oostdorp) now forms the heart of the Hofje.
Welzijn Bergen Foundation Manages the neighborhood center. “His thought it was good that we were going to organize activities ourselves,” explains Annet Stomph of the T&O residents association. “We do that here during the so -called ‘neighborhood room’; a space that we can use for free.”
More activities, more volunteers
In the neighborhood room Is a coffee morning every day. On Monday the knitting circle meets and you can craft on Thursday. “They are my regular morning I am looking forward to,” says one of the visitors. “It’s good for social contacts and it’s very nice,” say others.
But according to the residents’ association, much more is possible in the building. “We are now open in the mornings, but that is also allowed in the afternoon,” says Annet. “And there is room for many more activities, but we don’t have the manpower for that now.”
And so more volunteers are needed. “We are looking very specifically for someone who wants to guide a painting and drawing club once a week. But also people who want to organize something for children, young people or (young) adults. So do you want to do that? That is also a game morning or Being afternoon. us“, Annet evokes.
