FC Barcelona has reached the quarter -finals of the Champions League. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha shot a confident victory in the second leg against Benfica.
Barcelona won 3-1 against the team from Lisbon on Tuesday evening (11.03.2025). The team of coach Hansi Flick also celebrated a victory in the first leg (1-0). In the quarter -finals, Barça will meet Borussia Dortmund or the French club OSC Lille.
Before the kick -off, the team doctor Barcelonas, who died last Saturday, was commemorated. Carles Miñarro Garcia surprisingly died at the age of 50, and the championship game against Ca Osasuna then canceled at short notice.
Ter stitch visibly moved with a minute’s silence
The injured German national goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen was visibly moving in the grandede of the Olympic Stadium during the grief minute, into which Barça has to continue to dodge because of the conversion of Camp Nou.
Rapid start in Barcelona
The game started rapidly. Despite the 1-0 advantage, Barcelona was looking for the offensive and came to several degrees in the initial phase. A shot from Robert Lewandowski flew too centrally on the goal, so it was easy to keep for Benfica’s keeper Anatoli Trubin.
A little later, Barça cheered after Lamine Yamal prevailed in the penalty area. It remained a matter of interpretation whether the young star’s flank was actually intended as a cross or should become a shot. In any case, Raphinha converted to his tenth goal in the ongoing competition (11th minute). The Brazilian had already hit in the first leg when Barcelona won despite about 70 minutes.
Otamendi compensates for, Yamal meets worth seeing
However, the leadership only lasted about two minutes. Lewandowski involuntarily extended a corner kick to Nicolás Otamendi, who headed 1-1 from a short distance.
After that, the attention was again Yamal, one of the two outstanding players. He also ensured the leadership of the league leader of La Liga, and this time it was completely clear that the shot from a good 16 meters should be bumped into the left corner of the gate (27th).
Confusion to Raphinha’s second hit
The second outstanding player was Raphinha, and with his second goal of the evening, he ensured that there was little doubt about the progress of Barcelona at the break. After the shot from Raphinha found the way into the goal, there was a little confusion that the French referee Francois Letexier caused. Possible offside? A foul that he had whistled before graduation? It remained open what Letexier had seen, he ultimately decided on a regular goal.
Raphinha and the only 17 -year -old Yamal shone after the break. They passed the ball on each with a hoe before Frenkie de Jong was served with a flat cross, but his shot rolled past the goal (65.).
In the quarter -finals: Hansi Flick
Air out in the final phase
In the 70th minute, Hansi Flick passed to give the first stars a bit of protection. The two former Bundesliga players Lewandowski and Dani Olmo were replaced.
Benfica, which had turned off the AS Monaco in the intermediate round, tried in the second half and came to some degrees, but FC Barcelona was no longer at risk.
“He will support us from above. We want to play for him too“, said Flick after the death of the team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia, who also hit the trainer deeply. It succeeded.
