According to Feyenoord coach Arne Slot, a transfer from Fredrik Aursnes is not possible for the time being. The Feyenoord midfielder would leave for top club Benfica, but agreement is still a long way off.

“As far as I know, it is calm around him at the moment,” Slot said on Friday at the press conference prior to the game between Feyenoord and sc Heerenveen. “A transfer is not close at the moment. Benfica has been here quite a long time and that has not led to an agreement. In the meantime, there has been no renegotiation.”

The 26-year-old Aursnes was regularly left out of the selection in recent weeks. He played the entire match against Vitesse last week, in which Feyenoord won impressively 2-5.

“The moment a club is interested in one of our players, it must lead to concrete actions at the beginning of the week, and therefore not a day before the game,” said trainer Slot. “Interested clubs should therefore call on Monday and Tuesday.”

The Argentinian Santiago Giménez is the new addition to the Rotterdam team and can make his debut for the club. The striker, who was taken over from Cruz Azul from Mexico for 4 million euros, will probably receive playing minutes from Slot against Heerenveen.

“I think Santi flew over the world three times in a week and a half and you can see that he has noticed that physically. He also has to get used to his teammates and they to him,” said Slot. “At the same time, I have seen, and that is not unimportant for a striker, that he shoots the balls quite easily.”

Feyenoord-sc Heerenveen starts on Saturday at 9 p.m. and is led by referee Serdar Gözübüyük.
