Franjo Ivanovic (21) continues his career in Lisbon after the breakthrough in Belgium. Benfica confirmed the transfer of the center forward born in Tyrol and trained at FC Augsburg. The transfer fee, which was only exceeded twice at the top club from Portugal in the age group, was also officially confirmed. In the past few weeks, the Croatian had also been associated with FC Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Benfica claims to pay a transfer of EUR 22.8 million to Union Saint-Gilloise. With bonus payments, 5 million euros could later flow into the Belgian account, but they did not negotiate any participation in the event of a later resale.
Ivanovic transfer to Lisbon: Augsburg deserves with
The amount also includes the sum that FC Augsburg benefits as a main training club. According to our calculations, just more than 600,000 euros would have to go to the FCA as a solidarity payment. Benfica had only paid a higher transfer fee than EUR 22.8 million four times in his story. For players up to 21 years like Ivanovic, higher amounts only flowed for the later stars Enzo Fernández and Darwin Núñez (to the most expensive Benfica transfers).
After his time in Augsburg, Ivanovic took a remarkable way and decided against the possibility of switching to BVB or Austria Vienna, as he revealed to the transfer market last autumn. Instead, he went to HNK Rijeka at the age of 19. After 16 hits in 51 competitive games for the Croatians, Union SG paid 4 million euros for the transfer to the Belgian league. There he won the championship title with the team and contributed 21 goals in 47 games.
“Edin Terzic and Jan Zimmermann tried very much for me,” Ivanovic said to us last year about the eliminated opportunity in Dortmund. “I would have played with the second team and trained with the professionals. However, Rijeka had convinced me more. In advance, I had dealt intensively with how many talents in the past at Rijeka had matured into a football professional. I had also dealt intensively with what kind of football the coach wanted to play and what goals Rijeka was pursuing TM archive).
