Ben Affleck plays Batman in Aquaman 2

Once Batman, always Batman – Ben Affleck is back. He will reprise his role as Batman in the sequel to the comic book adaptation Aquaman 2. The Lost Kingdom. Aquaman actor Jason Momoa announced the news in a recent Instagram post.

The post shows Momoa and Affleck cuddling together. Below he wrote: “REUNITED Bruce and Arthur. I love and miss you. (…) Great things are coming. Aquaman 2”. The post also includes a video showing the two on a Warner Bros. studio tour. Momoa is currently in Los Angeles to film the second part of his signature role. The two actors previously worked together in their superhero costumes in the 2017 film Justice League.

Batman’s future is still up in the air

Actually, Affleck announced in 2019 that he would no longer slip into the Batman role. Nevertheless, to the surprise of many, he already returned as Bruce Wayne in the film “The Flash”, which was repeatedly postponed. Since Affleck is only part of the reshoot for Aquaman 2, his role is likely to be small. In fact, circulating reports are that he will only appear in one scene – replacing Michael Keaton, who was on camera for the main shoot of that scene.

Affleck first played Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). He then made a cameo appearance in Suicide Squad, also in 2016. He also starred in Justice League (2017) and the recent remake, Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Aside from the recently confirmed Batman role, Affleck’s future as Batman is still uncertain – especially given the launch of a whole new Batman universe starring Robert Pattinson. Because: Before Affleck announced his departure from Gotham City, there was discussion about his own Batman film, in which he should not only play the leading role, but also direct it. However, it never came to that. ‘The Batman’ was eventually made into a film, starring ‘Twilight’ star Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves, and was released in theaters this year.

Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom will be in theaters ahead of The Flash. The film is directed by James Wan and will be released in theaters worldwide on March 17, 2023. Watch the official trailer for the film here:
