The governor of the Russian border region of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said he was willing to meet the pro-Ukrainian Russian fighters, but “did not show up,” according to their leader. The group had demanded a meeting in exchange for two Russian soldiers they captured – a claim that cannot be independently verified. Since last week, the Belgorod area has been the scene of heavy fighting that has already left dozens dead.
