Since 1 July 2022, a new particulate filter test will be added to the technical inspection of diesel cars. The new test is intended to ensure that vehicles without or with a defective particulate filter no longer pass the technical inspection.

Cars that score poorly on the test will receive a red inspection certificate and in principle must present themselves for a re-inspection within 15 days. However, because there are problems with the delivery of particulate filters, that term has now been temporarily extended to three months.

“We received signals from the professional sector that there are significant logistical problems in obtaining particulate filters. The planned 15 days therefore appear to be insufficient to be able to install a new soot filter. Since people should be given the opportunity to get their vehicle back in order, we are now extending the term to three months,” explains Minister Peeters.

This is a temporary measure that starts today, Monday 18 July and will run until 1 July 2023.
