Belgian journalists about sympathetic AZ: “They don’t know Pascal Jansen here”

“AZ is a very good team and Anderlecht is not having the best season”, says Jurgen Geril of Het Nieuwsblad. The journalist notices that there is a feeling at the Belgian top club that there are opportunities to continue. “It will be an intense duel, but maybe Anderlecht will make it.”

Don’t underestimate AZ

Journalist Olivier de Wilde of Sporza is of the opinion that Anderlecht have not been lucky with AZ as their opponent. “Winning Lazio twice says something and you cannot underestimate AZ with that.”

“Pascal Jansen is really not known in Belgium,” says Geril van Het Nieuwsblad about the Alkmaar coach. “If you ask ten football fans in Belgium about him, they don’t know him.”

Fallen top club

Anderlecht’s trophy cabinet is bulging with 34 national titles, but in recent years the Brussels top club has fallen from its throne. That is also the case this season, because coach Brian Riemer’s team is ninth in the ranking in the Pro League. “It is no longer the Anderlecht of the past.”

When it comes to a prediction, the two journalists turn out not to be completely objective. “Anderlecht will continue”, said a smiling Geril from Het Nieuwsblad.
