Flemish Minister of Welfare Wouter Beke (CD&V) got the wind from the front on Wednesday during a topical debate in the Flemish Parliament about childcare. Within the opposition, the various groups asked the minister to take his “political responsibility” after the recent drama in problem nursery ‘t Sloeberhuisje in Mariakerke. Minister Beke, for his part, stated that initiatives of recent years appear to have been insufficient. “We have to act extra quickly to avoid such situations in the future.
