Been arguing about Enkhuizer ‘kletterfontein’ for years, seat moved due to error

The Council of State would today consider the ‘kletterfontein’ in Enkhuizen. The fountain in Snouck van Loosenpark is an eyesore for some residents because of the noise. That’s why they want to get rid of it. But the case they bring against the municipality is still a long way off. Due to an error at the Council of State, both the opponents and the municipality did not know that the case would take place today.

The municipality of Enkhuizen informs NH Nieuws that they have not received an invitation for today’s session at the Council of State. That’s why it was moved.

“We understand that the hearing is now being moved to another time,” said a spokesman. “As long as legal proceedings are still pending, we will not make a decision on the case.” A new date has not yet been announced.

Twelve years on

The fountain was placed in the pond in 2001, when the park celebrated its 100th anniversary. According to a local resident who has lived there since 1995, the misery started then. The clatter of the water drives her crazy. “I’ve been working on it for twelve years and now that thing is spraying a meter too high again,” she tells NH Nieuws. “The higher, the more noise the water makes.” A few other local residents are also affected.

From April 1 to October 1, the fountain is on every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the neighborhood there has been haggling about the fountain for years. Earlier it came to a survey and part of the fountain has been replaced. But for the local resident it still doesn’t help enough. “I wanted to come to a solution with the municipality, for example by looking at shorter or longer spraying positions.”

Something has changed in the meantime, but it doesn’t work as expected. After all these years she is now done with it, the commitment to the Council of State is therefore clear: “I hope that thing just goes away, I’m done with it now.”

Happy with fountain

Another local resident, Dirk Almoes, is happy with the fountain. He also lives nearby, but is not bothered by it. “After the survey, a number of measures have already been taken,” says Almoes. “I just want the fountain to stay that way. A fountain belongs in such a pond, at least I think so and most people agree.”

Almos was delighted when the fountain was placed to celebrate the park’s 100th anniversary. He is therefore happy when the fountain can spray again on April 1. “Then you know that summer is coming, that spring is here. It’s also nice, a little movement in the water.”

It doesn’t feel that way for the local resident at all. “I wish it didn’t bother me. It’s just a shitty sound.”
