Bebe Rexha attended the VMAs despite fears of body shaming

The singer, otherwise known for her body positivity, previously shared that she “doesn’t love herself right now.”

Pop singer Bebe Rexha shared via TikTok on Monday (September 11) that she might not attend the MTV Video Music Awards on September 12. The musician, who is otherwise known for body positivity, currently feels “not as confident” as she admitted.

“I don’t know if I’m going to go,” Rexha shared via TikTok. “I have an outfit. It’s really sweet. And I want to wear my dress and I want to go celebrate my nomination and my friends, but I feel like my fear is winning against me right now.” The singer was recognized for her collaboration with David Guetta on “I’ m Good (Blue)” was nominated in the “Best Collaboration” category.

“I just wanted to talk about it because a lot of people come up to me and say, ‘I love that you’re so into body positivity and self-confidence.’ Let me just say, right now I’m not feeling so confident,” she further shared. “I feel too anxious and stressed to go on the red carpet. And I’m afraid that people will talk about my weight.”

Whether through her own willpower or with the help of fans who gave her encouraging comments and tips on TikTok, Rexha was apparently able to overcome her fears as she hit the red carpet at the VMAs on Tuesday night in a black leather dress. Floor-length at the front and at the back: two round cut-outs on the back and a silky, shiny ponytail.

The musician has not yet publicly revealed what exactly motivated her to take part.

Although the award for “Best Collaboration” went to Shakira and Karol G with “TQG,” from the pictures, Rexha still had a good time at the award show.
