‘Beau van Erven Dorens and Chantal Janzen happy with merger failure’

RTL 4-star Beau van Erven Dorens and Chantal Janzen are very happy with the ricochet of the mega merger in television land, thinks Angela de Jong. “They no longer want to work with John de Mol.”

According to Angela de Jong, the fact that the takeover of Talpa by the much larger RTL is definitely off is bad news, especially for John de Mol. “At SBS they will have wanted the merger just a little harder than at RTL, because of course they all see that they are on a sinking ship and everyone is still trying to get rid of it in a good way.”

Wendy and Linda

For John’s stars, such a merger would be a wonderful one escape have been, said Angela in the AD Media podcast. “From certain presenters I can still imagine: dude, there will be a merger, then I can finally go back on the main stage. Wendy van Dijk, Linda de Mol.”

Still, enough SBS stars would have been fired, Angela thinks. “Yes, well yes, indeed: Hart van Nederland and Shownieuws… You know about that: you put the stronger RTL Nieuws against it and you have RTL Boulevard against it, and of course that always wins when it is pushed together.”

Beau and Chantal

Colleague Dennis Jansen, media journalist for AD, states that some RTL stars are downright relieved. “I understand that at RTL… Well, they didn’t breathe a sigh of relief, but I don’t think they all found it very annoying that it didn’t happen.”

Presenter Manuel Venderbos: “That the annoying nephew didn’t become a family?”

Angela: “Well, more the fact that a few people have of course already had dealings with John de Mol, worked for him or had a little bit of trouble with him. Take Beau van Erven Dorens, take Chantal Janzen.”

Not with John

Beau and Chantal have bad experiences with John, who would have received a 30 percent interest in RTL after the merger. “They do not hide their opinion, at least not recently. Of course they were not waiting to start working with him again.”

Manuel: “That’s an assumption.”

Angela: “Well, I would say: take a look at Beau’s talk shows and how he talks about John de Mol. He really isn’t looking forward to that.”

Miscalculation

The same applies to Chantal, says Angela. “Chantal hasn’t been completely tender in recent years about how her Chantal Continues to Sleep was handled, right? I have not seen it on RTL either.”

Would John really have gotten such a big finger in the pie after that merger? “If John de Mol is involved in something, it is really a miscalculation to think that he has nothing more or much less to say. Know your classics: he always knows how to maneuver himself into a key position somewhere.”
