Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan no longer dare to bash Renze Klamer now that RTL has publicly announced that this type of communication must take place internally, Victor Vlam thinks.
It is unprecedented how long RTL stood silently on the sidelines while Beau van Erven Dorens and Humberto Tan dragged their colleague Renze Klamer to the guillotine. After the summer, Renze will become the man of the late evening of RTL 4, so the channel can’t use all that bad publicity at all. And yet they let Beau and Humberto sabotage everything.
No choice
RTL finally responded to Beau and Humberto’s outbursts of anger last week. “We understand very well that the decisions surrounding RTL Tonight are accompanied by emotions. Our approach is that we have these types of conversations internally,” he said diplomatically.
Now Beau and Humberto no longer have a choice, according to TV critic Victor Vlam. “RTL has publicly announced that it needs to be discussed internally and I think that means that Beau and Humberto will now refrain from openly lashing out at Renze, because otherwise you are going very much against your employer and you normally don’t do that.”
Very late
Victor finds it unprecedented that RTL has only issued this statement so late, he says in his podcast Victor Indicates TV. “RTL should of course have done this a few weeks ago, right? It is very late. The question is also how harmful it is for the new talk show.”
It’s a shame that it ends now, he continues. “I really love it. I’m really enjoying this. I really watch everything with popcorn all week and enjoy it. You rarely see people throwing mud at colleagues like that. As someone who is just a spectator, I love it.”
Big egos
Why are Beau and Humberto so unprofessional? “Hilversum has big egos and in this case they make themselves known, but if you look exactly at what they say, it is also clear what the criticism is of Renze, namely that they see him as a kind of saboteur.”
And? Will this cost Renze viewers? No, Victor thinks. But: “It is far from ideal. This is not the promotion you normally want.”
