This year the 88-year-old princess can be seen at the cafĂ© in the clothing style of a hippie. A pleasant image, but the undertone is serious. “At the moment, many people are grumbling at the gas stations because of high petrol prices,” says Sjors Peters, who is on the facade decoration committee. “But we miss the counter-narrative in this war.”
Peters refers to the years when many protests took place on Dam Square, such as the demonstrations against the Vietnam War. It is precisely that counter-narrative that is missing in the war against Iran. “We don’t want to glorify violence,” says Peters. “We want people to behave more like a hippie. That’s why it says ‘BeA hippie’, with the text ‘make love not war’.
