Beach volleyball players Katja Stam from Klijndijk and Raïsa Schoon surprisingly won the Elite 16 tournament in Rosarito, Mexico. They were too strong for Anastasija Kravcenoka and Tina Graudina from Latvia with 21-14 and 21-13.
Stam (23) and Schoon (20) have never won a tournament on the Beach Pro Tour, previously the World Tour.
In the Elite 16, a new tournament on the international Beach Pro Tour, only the best sixteen teams in the world are allowed to participate in both the women and the men.
Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen failed to win the men’s tournament. The Dutch duo lost in straight sets to the first seeded couple Cherif Younousse/Ahmed Tijan from Qatar: 17-21 15-21.
