BBL: Successful trainer Patrick leaves MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg

After nine successful years, coach John Patrick is leaving the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg from the Basketball Bundesliga.

According to the club, the American with a German passport would like to devote himself to a new challenge in the future. Where it will lead Patrick is not yet known.

The now 54-year-old became head coach of Ludwigsburg in January 2013, since then the MHP giants have only missed the playoffs once. Most recently, it went three times in a row to the semifinals, in 2020 the club became runners-up.

“I think a change of scenery and a break are very important for me – for less responsibility off the court. We decided that it would be best for the team if I had the opportunity to recharge my batteries,” said Patrick, who also worked as athletic director.

He “now has a summer off – something I haven’t had in a very long time. It’s not possible for me to continue at this pace and scale.”
