In the fifth game of the semi -final series in the BBL, the Ulm basketball players prevail against the Würzburg Baskets and further expand an impressive balance.
The 91:84 (50:43) against the Würzburg Baskets was already the 15th home win in series for Ratiopharm Ulm. Throughout the season, the Swabians lost only one game in their own arena (against the Academics Heidelberg). Ulm now meets FC Bayern in the final series. The second of the main round therefore demands the first.
Both teams started a little ride in front of around 6,000 spectators in the Neu-Ulmer Arena and had to find their rhythm. This was a bit better for the Ulmen: after three minutes, Karim Jallow converted two free throws and ensured a 7-2 lead of the hosts.
Ulm break against the Baskets
While the Würzburgers continued to struggle and had some ball losses, the striking Jallow ensured the first highlight and provided the 11: 4 by spectacular dark. The Baskets fought something in the meantime, but Ulm’s Alfonso Plummer had the last word in the first third and made a 26:17 lead.
The Würzburgers started the second ten minutes. With two successful threes and a three-point game, the Baskets shortened to three points. Both teams now acted with a lot of speed, not always error -free, but extremely entertaining for the audience. Because Ty Harrelson’s team had reached the team foul border early on, Würzburg came closer to several free throws, but the hosts were able to keep the lead. At halftime, the Ulm were in the lead with 50:43.
Intensive duel between Ulm and Würzburg
In the second section it was the Würzburgers who quickly moved towards the team foul border. For this, things went better on the offensive for the guests. The Ulm kept against it, again and again in the person of the only 19 -year -old Ben Saraf.
Würzburg’s Jhivvan Jackson, MVP of the regular season, was hardly a factor in the game of the Baskets, as in the first section. The game was shaped by the tension. Sometimes things got down to business, the importance of the game was literally grasp. Before the final ten minutes, the Ulm were 66:58 at the front.
Ulmer with a strong three quota
The Baskets had to accept the next setback eight minutes before the end: for Zac Seljaas the encounter ended early after the five foul. As a result, the Ulm were able to pull away to 13 points through a threesome from Marcio Santos. It was already the tenth of 22 litters from a distance that found the way into the ring – a strong quota.
Würzburg tried everything to shoot the game, but the hosts put against it with an aggressive defense. There were still around five minutes to play when Würzburg’s Hannes Steinbach initially defended heavily and then shortened eight points (78:70). Harrelson reacted with a break to swear his team again.
And yet Würzburg came back through a 9-0 run, suddenly the gap to six points had melted. As so often that evening, the Ulmer had an answer, three minutes before the end it was 84:72. Würzburg’s coach Saso Filipovski took a break, the Baskets then pressed all over the field. Despite all the efforts of the guests, the Ulm brought the victory to the finish and celebrated the final.
The first game of the final series will take place on Sunday from 6 p.m. in Munich. Next Wednesday, the Ulm will receive the champion of 2024 in their own arena. The third game is scheduled for June 21.
