Alba Berlin celebrated a landslide victory in its penultimate game of the year. After a weak start, the Berliners are turning up the heat and are now back in touch with the top of the table.

The basketball players of Alba Berlin celebrated a resounding victory in their penultimate game of the year. The Berliners dismantled the MHP giants Ludwigsburg on Monday evening in their own hall with 80:47. From the second quarter onwards, Alba gave its guests no chance and secured the preliminary decision with an impressive 23-0 run before half-time.

Alba is improving furiously after a difficult start

Alba found it very difficult at the beginning in front of 8,500 spectators in the arena at Ostbahnhof. The Berliners, where Martynas Echodas, who was signed in the summer, made his home debut after a long injury break, were particularly slow to get into the game offensively. The team around builder Martin Hermannsson hardly got any easy throws and hit the throws they did get unusually poorly. The result was an 11:16 deficit after the first quarter.

As difficult as Alba had been in the opening quarter, the Berliners improved brilliantly in the second half. Starting from a defense that was almost impossible to crack, they now played at a completely different tempo. No matter whether in the fast break or in the organized half-field offense: Alba’s team around top scorer Justin Bean (19 points) succeeded in everything. The throws got better, the ratings increased. With a 23-0 run, Alba noticeably robbed the guests from Ludwigsburg of any belief in an away win before halftime.

All Alba players score points

Even in the second half, the Berliners left no doubt about their victory. Alba continued to defend well and play very solid offensively. Coach Pedro Calles was not only able to use all of his twelve players, but he also watched from the sidelines as they all scored points. Echodas, who had recovered, was the last Berliner to write the first points behind his name on the scoreboard in the final quarter.

Meanwhile, the Ludwigsburg team remained at most harmless offensively. After they had only scored six points in the second quarter on Monday evening, Alba only allowed them nine points in the final period.

After twelve Bundesliga games, Alba Berlin now has eight wins and four defeats. This means that the Berliners are tied with Trier in fourth place in the table. On Wednesday (12:30 p.m.) Alba will welcome the Lions from Braunschweig in their own hall at the end of the year.
