Basketball Bundesliga club medi Bayreuth has found a new head coach. Lars Masell, who worked as an assistant coach for the Franconians from 2016 to 2021, will succeed his long-time superior Raoul Korner for the coming season.
The 41-year-old Masell, who is still working as an assistant coach at league rivals MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, will receive a one-year contract in Bamberg.
“In my career, I’ve worked towards one day getting the chance to take charge of a Bundesliga team as head coach,” said Masell.
Korner leaves Bamberg after missing the play-offs. After six years at the club, the 48-year-old Austrian explained that he felt the need for a “change of scenery”.
