BBL, 24th matchday: Rostock closes the gap to Bamberg

Newly promoted Rostock Seawolves continue to hold their own in the basketball Bundesliga. On matchday 24, the Baltic Sea club won 94:88 at Baskets Bamberg.

After a strong first quarter, the Rostock team was already ten points ahead at 30:20 on Saturday (March 18th, 2022). But the Franks fought their way up bit by bit and equalized at the end of the third quarter with a 10:1 run thanks to a three-point shot by Gerel Simmons to make it 67:67.

In the last round the lead changed constantly. Almost two and a half minutes before the end of the game, Patrick Miller put the hosts ahead 84:83 with a layup. But then the final sprint belonged to the Seawolves. With an “Alley Oop” from Selom Mawubge just over a minute before the end, the guests extended their lead to five points and finally clinched the away win.

The best pitchers at Rostock, which in tenth place now has a balanced record of twelve wins and twelve losses, like Bamberg (8th place), were Jequan Lewis and Tyler Nelson with 21 points. Jaromir Bohacik scored 22 points for Bamberg.

Strong final sprint from Crailsheim against Ulm

In another game, the Merlins Crailsheim gained room in the bottom of the table with a 76:68 win against Ulm. In the final quarter, the Merlins turned a twelve-point deficit into a win with a furious 29:9 run. Edon Maxhuni was the best scorer for the hosts with 16 points.
