The world has regularly been more than 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer this year than in pre-industrial times. Based on its own analysis, the BBC reports that temperatures rose further than that important limit in a third of the days in 2023. The European climate service Copernicus predicted earlier this week that 2023 is on track to become the warmest year on record.
