Michael Olise was the best player in the past Bundesliga season. But that was not interested in the balloon d’Or. Again it becomes clear: it is a choice of arbitrariness.

On Tuesday at a quarter to six, the full absurdity of the balloon d’Or revealed itself. At that time, the French magazine “France Football”, which organizes the election, published a contribution on his X account in which the last place of the 30 stars nominated for the price was announced. This year Michael Olise from FC Bayern took the place at the end of the ranking. At that moment it became clear once again: the balloon d’Or is an event that is not to be taken seriously. Because the 23-year-old should be the worst in the list of the allegedly best footballers in the world, testifies to pure arbitrariness.

No other player shaped the Bundesliga as much as Olise in the past season. In his first season in Germany, the Frenchman contributed 12 hits and 18 templates to win the championship, which the club had missed in the previous year without him. There were also eight more goals and five additional assists in the Champions League, in the DFB Cup and at the club World Cup. Makes a total of 43 scorer points: an incredible statistics for a first year on the really big football stage. For which he might not have earned the balloon d’Or, but at least one place in the top ten.

Olise became the fruits of his work, so clear you have to formulate it, but now cheated on the line and thread. Other stars such as Chelseas Cole Palmer almost got better placements in the ranking on Tuesday, although they had not begined to do such a good season as Olise. The decisions of a hundred voting journalists from the states of the top 100 in the FIFA world rankings are almost no basis.

Especially since the media representatives alone classified nine professionals from Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain before Olise. The gain in the premier class for the French capital club was primarily due to the performance of the team as a collective and only to a limited extent to the individual class of the individual players. It is not conveyable that each of them should have been better than Olise.

Accordingly, the suspicion is that the election committee was once again guided by a one -dimensional view – and has lost sight of the big whole again. Because in order to be able to really evaluate which players should end up in a choice of the best footballer of the year, the view beyond the box of the Spanish La Liga, the English Premier League and the Champions League winner must go beyond the Bundesliga.
