Bayern Munich | “Superfluous”: Matthäus denounces Nagelsmann’s angry speech

Despite a clear 3-0 win against VfL Bochum in the end, Julian Nagelsmann was anything but satisfied with Bayern Munich’s performance on Saturday afternoon. However, Lothar Matthäus could not understand the coach’s public scolding of the player.

When Julian Nagelsmann left the Allianz Arena, FC Bayern was on red alert. The irritated Munich coach and his ailing stars were in crisis mode despite a successful dress rehearsal before the eagerly awaited round of 16 summit in the Champions League at Paris Saint-Germain.

“We don’t have a great flow. If we play like this on Tuesday, it won’t be enough to progress,” Nagelsmann complained after the tough 3-0 (1-0) win over basement child VfL Bochum.

The 35-year-old was already annoyed at the erratic performance of his star ensemble during the half-time break when his visit to the dressing room had the character of a speed date.

“We discussed a few other things, but that was done in 1:30 minutes,” revealed Nagelsmann, who a little later sat alone on the coach’s bench and analyzed “a few scenes” on the tablet.

FC Bayern: Matthäus finds Nagelsmann’s angry speech “superfluous”

The fact that Nagelsmann was so frustrated on Saturday and attacked his own protégés so offensively caused astonishment for record national player Lothar Matthäus.

“Maybe Julian could have done it a little more cleverly and roused the players internally in the dressing room,” the 61-year-old criticized Nagelsmann quietly on the “Sky90” show.

Matthäus considered the entire lecture to be “superfluous because the players know exactly what Tuesday is about.”

Not only the living Bayern legend is surprised how thin-skinned Nagelsmann has become. “You can see how great the pressure on him has become,” Matthäus explained.
