Bayern Munich | Master hero Musiala sheepishly: “I wasn’t satisfied myself”

On Saturday afternoon, Jamal Musiala advanced to the acclaimed champion hero at FC Bayern. The youngster then hardly knew what to say.

“I’ve never had such a good feeling,” admitted the 20-year-old. His winning goal to make it 2-1 at 1. FC Köln just four minutes after being substituted on and one minute before the end gave the Munich team their eleventh championship in a row.

The 20-year-old had been the shooting star of the first half of the season and perhaps the biggest German bright spot at the disappointing World Cup. But then, as coach Thomas Tuchel put it, “his development suffered in an unstable team”. Musiala had not scored since the end of February. Until Saturday.

“It’s unbelievable. Jamal hasn’t scored for weeks and then he hits the bottom,” enthused teammate Thomas Müller.

“Recently he seemed a bit overplayed. He was jittery and faulty, made a lot of technical mistakes, which is atypical for him,” explained Tuchel: “But that was great for him and for all of us it was an amazing big point.”

Or as Musiala put it: “I wasn’t happy with the way I played last time. I wasn’t good in the flow. But that was the perfect moment to score a goal again.”
