Bayern Munich | Herbert Hainer makes it clear: “We will spend a lot of money”

In the last few meters of the 2022/23 season, FC Bayern just avoided a season without a title by winning the German championship. However, people on Säbener Straße are not satisfied with what has been achieved. President Herbert Hainer has now commented on the construction sites.

With Julian Nagelsmann, the supposed coach of the future was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in the course of the season, with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic and CEO Oliver Kahn, the sporting management of FC Bayern had to vacate their place on the day of the championship celebration. In addition, there are some transfer problems in the squad – above all the search for a new center forward of world-class format.

One thing is certain: the people of Munich have a busy summer ahead of them. A fact that Herbert Hainer never denied to “Bild-TV”.

With all the problems in 2023, one shouldn’t forget that FC Bayern played a “strong first half of the season” and Borussia Dortmund had already rushed to nine points before a “bumpy second half” almost destroyed everything. “We will analyze exactly why that is and draw the right conclusions,” summarized Hainer.

Will FC Bayern invest 100 million euros?

One thing has been known for a long time: the gap left by goal scorer Robert Lewandowski leaving FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022 could not be filled.

“We’re going to spend a lot of money, so far we haven’t spent any. The previous two transfers [Konrad Laimer von RB Leipzig und Raphael Guerreiro vom BVB, d.Red.] we did it on a free transfer”, said Hainer, who once again made it clear: “It is known that we are looking for a centre-forward, but unfortunately there are not that many of them. However, we are on the right track, analyzing the market and seeing what suits us”.

Hainer did not explicitly rule out the fact that poker for the few candidates would break the 100 million euro mark for the first time, but he did qualify: “But everything has to be right for that.”

FC Bayern must fear great competition

While Hainer tended to avoid inquiries about buying Bundesliga top scorer Niclas Füllkrug from Werder Bremen, the 68-year-old confirmed other names that regularly circulate in the media.

“Of course there are some strikers and the names are mentioned again and again in the media. Be it Randal Kolo Muania, Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane or Dusan Vlahovic. We’ll see what suits us best and we’ll find a good solution .” In addition to the sporting aspect, it is also about compliance with economic reason.

To make matters worse, Bayern aren’t the only top club looking for a new nine. “As we all know, there are very few classic center forwards who can play at this level. The competition is tough, but the supply isn’t,” confirmed Hainer. “But here, too, quality takes precedence over speed. We’ll find exactly the striker who suits us.”

Hainer, on the other hand, was hardly able to get anything out of another very specific flirt by FC Bayern. When asked how poker is going with midfield star Declan Rice from West Ham United, the Bayern boss simply explained: “Our scouts are in contact with many players, that’s how it has to be.”
