Christian Heidel is convinced of Thomas Tuchel’s future success at Bayern Munich.
“I have no doubt that Thomas will become a very successful Bayern coach,” said the sports director of Tuchel’s former employer FSV Mainz 05 before meeting the current coach of the currently troubled record champions on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) on “Sky”: “The biggest challenge will be the next few years.”
The 59-year-old was manager of Rheinhessen from 1992 to 2016 and knows Tuchel very well from his time at FSV. After a year as U19 coach, the 49-year-old took over the pros in the summer of 2009 and trained for five years.
“He has now taken over a team that he has hardly coached, that he has not put together,” commented Heidel Tuchel’s current situation at Bayern after losing in the Champions League and the DFB Cup. “Nevertheless, I assume that he will be successful with this team. It doesn’t necessarily have to be on Saturday.”
Tuchel is also not as complicated as it is always made out to be. “I experienced him as a trainer for several years and they were completely stress-free,” stressed Heidel. He recommended: “You have to take him with you, also when making decisions, especially about the squad. He wants to have a say in whether a player fits or not.”
