Bayern fold Hertha and take back the top. But the fans are booing

Without shining, the Bavarians beat the team from Berlin 2-0 with goals from Gnabry and Coman. Despite the first place, moans from the public

Whistles, disappointment, concern, but primacy nonetheless. Bayern Munich beat Hertha Berlin 2-0 and regained the top of the standings (at +1 over Borussia Dortmund, blocked on Friday evening by Bochum) four games from the end (here the standings). Goals from Gnabry (arrived in the 69th minute) and Coman (in the 79th minute) decided in a match in which the Bavarians, however, seemed not very lucid and brilliant. In the next round, Tuchel’s team will play in Bremen against Werder, with Dortmund hosting Wolfsburg instead. However, the fans have expressed their discontent precisely because there was no bite for a long time.

THE RACE

Tuchel lines up his team with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Musiala, Coman and Gnabry behind Mané. The Bavarians seem to attack their opponents from the first minutes, finding the first shot on goal after just 55 seconds, with Joao Cancelo who however fails to beat Christensen. Bayern actually continue to put pressure, but constantly hit the wall of Hertha. On 27′ Coman comes into contact with Mittelstadt and asks for a penalty which the referee doesn’t grant, while on 40′ it is Gnabry who strikes on the fly and forces Christensen into a miraculous save. Before the break it was Mané who missed a good opportunity, hitting the ball badly.

THE RECOVERY

In the second half Bayern tried to trigger the wingers frequently, but Hertha held up the offensive impact of their rivals. Tuchel’s team struggled to create clear chances and were forced to look for a breakthrough with shots from distance (Pavard in the 60th minute) which, however, didn’t really worry Christensen. The goal then came in the 69th minute, by which time even the hope of the fans (rekindled only by Muller’s entry onto the field) was beginning to fade: after Kimmich’s cross, Gnabry was quick to put himself in a position to beat the opposing goalkeeper. Bayern kept the ball and did not allow Hertha to become dangerous, then finding the 2-0 with Coman: another cross from Kimmich who caught Coman in the box. The Frenchman gets rid of Plattenhardt and doubles up. Managing the lead becomes easy and the Bavarians start playing with great fluency to the point that they even come close to making it 3-0 with Sané. It would have been too heavy a result for Hertha, which would not have reflected the progress of the match. With Bayern having long seemed nervous and awkward. Enough to get boos from the fans even on the day he returns to the top.
