Waiting for the right moment

Xabi Alonso continues to keep covered with a view to his future despite many speculations. “I have nothing new to say. The answer is the same. We have to wait,” said Bayer Leverkusen coach before the Bundesliga game at SC Freiburg on Sunday (5:30 p.m./DAZN). The 43-year-old emphasized that communication with the association is good.

It was only in the morning to talk to sports director Simon Rolfes and club boss Fernando Carro about “some topics” – but the coaching search did not belong. “We are all informed for everything. This is never a problem for us. We stay calm and will wait for the right moment when there is something to decide,” said Alonso.

There is also no unrest in the team. “I think it doesn’t impress too much. The mood is good in training. We are fighting and we only play for ourselves. It is not a big topic for us,” said the Spaniard. National player Robert Andrich (30) had recently admitted that the permanent discussion around the coach is concerned with the team.

Alonso is still under contract in Leverkusen until 2026. Nevertheless, it has been speculated for months about a possible switch to Real Madrid, where the future of Carlo Ancelotti is open. Its movement to the Brazilian national team was temporarily considered safe, but a final agreement wobbles. With Bayer, Alonso has to receive the approval when offering a club for which he used to play as a professional.

When asked whether he was able to say that he was recently announced by Leverkusen, Ibrahim Maza (19) that he would play as a coach in the coming season, Alonso Kurz replied: “Just yes.” Media speculations that Alonso and his family were looking for a new house in Düsseldorf some time ago, he narrowly commented: “No, I have a house.”
