Bayer 04 Leverkusen has signed talent Montrell Culbreath on a long-term basis and has given the 18-year-old a professional contract until 2030. The winger caused a stir shortly before Christmas when he scored the goal to make it 3-1 in Leipzig in his first Bundesliga game. The Werkself made another short appearance for the Palatinate native in the Champions League against Olympiakos (0-2). His goal in the German upper house made him the fourth youngest goalscorer in a competitive game for Leverkusen.
“We are very pleased about this conclusion with Montrell Culbreath. He has developed excellently in our U-teams in recent years and has also shown his good prospects in many training sessions with the professional team,” said sports director Simon Rolfes. Director Kim Falkenberg explained: “Montrell is currently one of the top performers in our U19. We trust him to successfully continue his path into the professional squad and become a Bayer 04 player of the future as a homegrown player.”
Culreath came to Leverkusen in 2023 from the 1. FC Kaiserslautern youth team. In Bayer’s U17 he was immediately one of the top performers with ten goals and three assists in 23 games. In the U19 he has so far scored six goals and three assists in 32 games. Culbreath has been on the pitch for the DFB since the U16s. Last year he made his debut in the U19, where he has made seven appearances (one goal). He also played a few games for the USA U16 team.
About his step into the professional field, the youngster said: “This professional contract is a dream come true for me. To be able to recommend myself to a Champions League club like Bayer 04 for such a long-term period is a dream. I will try to learn a lot, constantly improve and justify the trust.”
