In the Champions League, FC Bayern is waiting for a mammoth task at the start. A victory would be the first step on the way to the longed -for title.

They dream of very big throw: seven times German champion, twice DFB Cup winner-the title collection of FC Bayern women is impressive. But on the international stage, the team around DFB captain Giulia Gwinn is still waiting for the big breakthrough. The Henkelpott, the trophy of the Champions League, has so far remained out of reach. Most recently, in the premier class at the latest in the semi -finals.

But everything is supposed to run differently this year. The final is the goal. But the way there leads through a sporty mine field. At the start of the new season, FC Barcelona is waiting for a team peppered with stars, which, among other things, knows the three -time world footballer Aitana Bonmatí in her own ranks. This is followed by Juventus Turin and the Arsenal WFC two more European heavyweights – and the winner of last season. Last May, the London women won the title that Bayern loved to have in their trophy cabinet.

The starting situation before the first game in Barcelona is clear: Bayern travel to Spain as a clear outsider. Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Ewa Pajor and Co. have already been awarded twice (2023 and 2024) as a team of the year, stood six times in the final of the Champions League and emerged three times as winners (2021, 2023 and 2024).

Barça won three times in four encounters with Bayern. And yet the course is reorganized before the recent meeting of both teams.

Munich’s club director Bianca Rech recently said: “We have done very successful work in recent years – now it is about meeting expectations towards top European football.” The team and those responsible agree: “We want to go one step further now.” What does that mean? Bavaria wants to play for the title of the Champions League, as opponents Barcelona has been doing for years.

A first showdown is about in Estati Johan Cruyff, the home venue of the Catalan women. They don’t want to hide from the ambitious German club: “They are a strong team. But they don’t scare us, we are Barça, and we will fight like animals,” announced coach Pere Romeu in front of the cracker against the double winner (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker at T-online). A clear sign that everything will be demanded from the start.
