Baumgart on investor deal: ‘The majority is the curve’

FREIBURG (dpa-AFX) – Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart used clear words to show great understanding for the fans in the debate about the controversial investor deal in the German Football League (DFL). “I believe that you have to accept and respect what the fans show. A majority decision cannot be made by 50 people. The majority is the curve and that in every stadium. You should keep that in mind in all situations. I leave it aside whether it’s right or wrong,” the FC coach said on DAZN on the sidelines of the Bundesliga game at SC Freiburg on Sunday.

Last Monday, the 36 professional clubs gave the DFL the mandate, with the necessary two-thirds majority, to enter into concrete negotiations with a strategic marketing partner. Many supporters showed their great displeasure with various actions over the weekend.

“We have a majority that opts for normal football. This is shown by the curve in every stadium. We shouldn’t just ignore it,” added Baumgart. FC was one of only three Bundesliga clubs to vote against the DFL plans./tas/DP/he
